The Maple Leaf March is walked on public roads (i.e. sidewalks) and multi-use pathways. The roads used by the Maple Leaf March will not be closed off. In addition to participants receiving a paper handout of the day’s route at the beginning of each event day, itineraries can be downloaded onto phones. Numerous visible indicators such as coloured arrows and ribbons are also displayed at various points along the routes to guide participants.

Yes. We all know that dogs love going on walks! Provided your dog remains on leash and under full control at all times and can complete the distance that you are walking that day, it can join you on the Maple Leaf March. Dogs, however, do not receive medals or coins…

Basic refreshments and snacks (e.g. water, juice, fruit, granola bars) are provided at the various checkpoints on the Saturday and Sunday of the event. Please bring any additional food or drink you may require. You will also find numerous grocery and convenience stores as well as restaurants along all the Maple Leaf March itineraries (except the 42 km route that goes through Gatineau Park).

The rest areas/checkpoints will only be open during limited time windows based on an average walking speed of 4 to 6 km per hour, with an extra 15-minute grace period on either side. For example, based on an 8:00 am start, the first checkpoint (which is approximately located at the 10 km mark) will open at 9:15 am and will close at 10:45 am.

Yes. The Maple Leaf March is open to groups. Completing the March could for instance be a great activity in the context of a workplace charitable campaign. So, we encourage you to bring along as many people as you can! There is even a special award given at the end of the March to the best group!

You can obtain an optional cancellation insurance (for a refund of 100% of the Maple Leaf March’s registration and other associated fees in case of cancellation) at the time of registration. Reimbursements for participants without the cancellation insurance will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the Maple Leaf March’s organizers. Alternatively, should you no longer be able to attend the Maple Leaf March, you can transfer your registration to someone else for a nominal fee.

The Maple Leaf March is an all-weather event and will take place rain or shine (or snow!). That said, special measures could be put in place by the organizers should the meteorological conditions jeopardize the safety of the participants. These might include, for instance, modified start times or extra time to finish the March’s various distances.

Yes. Should you wish to obtain a new Maple Leaf March medal/coin/pin, please contact the Maple Leaf March organizers for replacement information and prices. Please note that replacement and shipping fees may apply.

The start/finish/ceremonies location will be very close to the same locations as the previous 2 years, right in the city centre, within 800m of the City Hall. The final decision will be made and the route maps updated when we know how many participants are coming and how big of a venue is required.
